Find your flow with SUP yoga
Our SUP yoga is back on the water and this year the classes are open to both club members and anyone else interested. In this article, you can meet our SUP yoga instructor Margaux, who wants to give your yoga practice an extra fluid balance.
Yoga and surfing are a great pairing, and during the summer months the Surf Agency combines the two with SUP yoga. Here, participants paddle out on the water and enjoy a yoga class where the exercises are done on the surfboard. It adds an extra dimension to the balance of both body and mind.Β
SUP yoga for everyone
In previous years SUP yoga has been reserved for Surf Agency's SUP club members, but new this year the classes are open to everyone and you can Sign up for single sessions. The SUP yogis are on the water every Monday from 17:00. Everyone can join, but if you haven't tried stand up paddle boarding before, come at 16.30 for an introduction.Β
Wetsuit and SUP equipment are included in the price of a SUP yoga class, which lasts approximately 1.5 hours and takes place in the bay or river depending on the weather.Β
Yoga instructor combines ocean and mindfulness
Our talented SUP yoga instructor Margaux Yvon will guide everyone safely through the class. Below you can read about her journey with SUP yoga and why she thinks everyone should try a mini yoga retreat on the board.Β
Margaux, how did you get into SUP yoga?
- I've been practising yoga for about four years now and in that time it has become a big part of my life. In January 2025, I completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training programme in Rishikesh, India, and it really strengthened my understanding and connection to the practice. Teaching SUP yoga felt like a natural next step as I've always loved being close to nature - especially the ocean - so it just made sense to combine yoga with Stand Up Paddle. It's a beautiful way to combine mindfulness, movement and the outdoors.
How is SUP yoga different from regular yoga?
- SUP yoga adds a whole new layer to the yoga practice. Because you're balancing on a board, you have to be even more focused and present - your mind can't wander too far away. It really strengthens your core muscles and balance, even in the simplest poses. But perhaps the biggest difference is actually the surroundings: being surrounded by water, feeling the sun, hearing the birds. It feels like a little retreat every time you get on the board.
What is your favourite thing about SUP yoga?
- My favourite thing is watching people surprise themselves. Even those who think they can't do it usually end up loving it - they find their balance, relax and often leave class with the biggest smile. I think it's a playful and happy way to practice yoga.
Do you have a message for those thinking about trying SUP yoga?
- For those of you who are curious: You don't need to be an experienced yogi or good at Stand Up Paddle boarding. SUP yoga is for everyone - all ages and all levels. Come as you are, have fun and give it a try. You might fall in (we all do sometimes!) but you'll most likely fall for it too.
