What can you do on a SUP surfboard? Probably much more than you think!
There are lots of fun activities on a stand-up paddleboard. Here, Surf Agency's surf managers give you tips on how to get even more action and zen out of a trip on the water.
Once you've found your balance on the surfboard and mastered the basic paddling technique, there are plenty of fun hours ahead of you on the board. Whether you're the type to seek zen and recharge in nature, or prefer more action, there's room for it all at sea.
– A large part of the attraction for me is the ‘blue mind’ state that you can get into when all your focus is on the surfboard. There are no screens or anything else to distract you here. Just body and sea as one, says Finja Götz, who runs the surf and wellness centre Surf Agency with Michael Allman.
– I'm wild about geeking out on paddle technique and frolicking in action-packed races and SUP wave surfing, says Michael Allman.
Here are some of their ideas for the many fun, quirky, and peaceful things you can do on a SUP board.
Leg, leg, leg!
There's a wealth of different games you can have fun with on a SUP board.
Try, for example, a relay race where you compete against each other in pairs. One person lies on the board while the other paddles you forward. This adds an extra challenge to balance and, not least, extra laughs!
Or build a ‘log raft’ out of a series of SUP boards and see who can run across them without falling in.
But remember – falling in the water is part of the experience, it's actually where it gets the most fun!
At Surf Agency's team-building courses there are plenty of such games on the programme.
Also practise your surfer turns, where you stand on the tail of the board, so you can turn it 360° faster. Then you'll be ready for races too!
Action – get your adrenaline rush on the surfboard
SUP races
A part of the SUP sport takes place on race boards, where the aim is to paddle strongly and finish first!
Surf Agency has a race team, which is part of SUP Club. They train together and go to races around Denmark. Among other things, the club boasts a Danish Championship silver medallist!
Surf in waves
Here you can really challenge your balance! SUP in waves requires practice, but it's also incredibly fun. You'll never forget the first wave you catch!
On Jutland's east coast, there are rarely surfing waves, but if you're with Surf Agency’s SUP Club, you can join surf camps on the West Coast.
Blue mind – let the sea recharge you
Paddleboarding session
Enjoy the sea and nature from a surfboard. Paddling around in, for example, Aarhus Bay offers a very special recharge, both in summer and winter.
SUP Yoga
Add an extra element of balance to your yoga practice and some fresh sea air. Read more in the article here.
Let yourself go
Lie on your back on the board, close your eyes and let the waves gently rock you (just remember to check periodically that you are not drifting too far).
Get started with SUP
If you want to get started with SUP sports, Surf Agency beginner courses, where you'll learn all the basics of water safety and techniques with your paddle and on the board. Of course, there'll also be time for fun and games.
