New saunagus concept in the centre of Aarhus Marina

The waiting lists for winter bathing and sauna clubs in Aarhus are overflowing, which is why Surf Agency has launched a new concept with open saunas for all winter-weary Aarhus residents. Right now, registrations are open for especially cosy Christmas saunas.

Press release 27 November 2024

Walking around Aarhus Marina, you might notice a small oasis where surfers in wetsuits take a SUP board under their arm, while wellness guests in swimwear relax in a hot hot tub. The oasis is called Surf Agency, run by locals Michael Allman and Finja Götz.

Surfing and wellness are on the same wavelength

The two surfers met in the waves in the Caribbean, and twelve years ago they started the first stand up paddle surf school in Aarhus. Since then, they have expanded with an outdoor wellness area, where the latest addition is open saunas.

- For us, surfing is also very much about wellbeing, so outdoor wellness was a natural extension of our concept. Often our guests go out on the water first and finish with a hot tub and sauna, but many only do the wellness part in winter," says Finja Götz.

Christmas saunagus turns up the cosiness

A quick look at the waiting lists of Aarhus winter swimming clubs reveals that it can take years to get into the promised sauna halls.

Surf Agency offers open saunagus for everyone

- We want to give even more Aarhus residents the opportunity for a little warm self-indulgence during the winter, which is why we invite you to open saunas where you can easily sign up at short notice," says Finja Götz.

A saunagus session lasts 75 minutes with three eight-minute gus with different essential oils. At Christmas, an oil with a special Christmas scent will fill the sauna, and the sauna surfers offer Christmas sweets and Christmas drinks.

- We do a lot to create a hospitable and cosy atmosphere, which is why our little aloha oasis will of course also have an extra Christmas atmosphere," says Finja Götz.

Warmth and the cold shivers are good for you

To maximise your sauna experience, you can jump into the cold water tub or take an icy plunge under the whirlpool.

- A lot of research indicates that cold baths and saunas can help prevent diseases and generally relax the body and reduce stress, says Finja Götz, referring to a research study featured in Fagbladet Sygeplejersken.

The open saunas take place on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday and can be booked directly in the calendar here
