Team building with surf and sauna builds team spirit

Over the years, Surf Agency has taken many companies out on the water for team building. A fun and new experience on the SUP board creates unity and shared memories in the team. If you want to really spoil your colleagues, you can jump in the sauna and hot tub after the exertions.

One of those who has travelled with colleagues to Team building on a surfboard is Jarl Hansen from the company DinBoli.

- I've been to Surf Agency before for a bachelor party, so I thought my colleagues should have the same pleasure. Everyone had a great day," says Jarl Hansen.

Friendly competitions boost courage

A team building day at Surf Agency begins with the instructors meeting the team and helping everyone into their wetsuits. Depending on the weather conditions, the trip goes out into Aarhus Bay or, less often, along the river towards the city.

Once everyone has found their balance on the board, SUP instructors guide the team in various collaborative exercises and small friendly competitions.

Team building on a raft

- When people go out on the water for the first time, many of them think “can I do this...” and maybe they're a little nervous. But it's so cool to see how they overcome the limits together with their colleagues," says Finja Götz, co-owner of Surf Agency.

Small challenges can be board balancing exercises in pairs or teams, relay races and mini races between small teams. A classic Surf Agency team building exercise is to build a “raft” together from SUP boards.

Colleagues on the loose

Jarl and his colleagues stand up paddle surfed in Aarhus Bay, and along the way the instructors got them going with some competitions and co-operation exercises. There was also plenty of time for socialising with office and work colleagues.

- There were some who had never tried SUP before, but well guided by the instructors, they jumped into it with open arms. Personally, I think it's great to see colleagues on a slack line and not in their normal “environment”. People were a little nervous before going on the water, but when we got back, everyone was in a great mood," says Jarl Hansen.

New results across the team

At sea, the usual divisions and hierarchies among colleagues are dissolved, and this can create new collaborative opportunities and experiences that you can take back to the office or construction site.

DinBoli is a house-building company that delivers architect-designed houses according to customers' wishes. The company employs everyone from carpentry apprentices and journeymen to salespeople, draughtsmen, finance staff and management.

- We don't all work closely together every day as we are in different professions, but in the end we are all on the same team and only achieve results when we work together," says Jarl Hansen.

Sauna and hot tub complete the day

After Jarl and DinBoli came ashore, they booked outdoor wellness with sauna and hot tub.

- It was so cosy. We enjoyed the lovely sun and cold drinks while sitting in a hot hot tub. Michael from Surf Agency also threw in a sauna session, which was super cool and great service," recalls Jarl Hansen.

In addition to outdoor wellness and SUP surfing, companies can also rent a Meeting room at Surf Agency, where catering can even be arranged.

- We are creative when it comes to mixing and matching a tailor-made programme for companies, whether they only want saunas or the whole package," says Finja Götz.

Swap the office for nature

Team building is an investment in both people and results. A day at Surf Agency can give all employees an opportunity to meet offline and swap the office for nature and the sea, which has an anti-stress effect on people.

- The sea is a mobile-free zone and it opens up for us to create something valuable together in the moment we share on the water. We see every time that it means a lot to a team to have such a shared experience, and when they come back on land, all worries are forgotten. Many come back and are like children again, with a huge smile on their faces," says Finja Götz.

Relaxed relationship and new hobbies

Jarl and his colleagues also took home something new from their team building with water and wellness.

- In general, I think people got a more relaxed relationship with each other when you've seen each other on the slack line. It was a super cool experience, and I'm sure there are some people who had to go home and buy boards," says Jarl Hansen.
